U2 - The Best of 1980–1990
Greatest Hits collections are basically a sampler of a band’s
catalogue. More snobby music fans think of them as “not proper
albums”. But actually, for most people, they don’t want to hear obscure
album tracks. They want hit after hit. This collection does
exactly what you’d expect. I would argue that it has pretty much every
song that you’d want to hear from U2. Yes, the die-hard fan (guilty,
your honour), can point out what is missing. But that would be
churlish. (although the absence of
Gloria from this compilation rankles …)
